IELTS Topic Lesson 2: Environment from 3Rs to 7Rs

Look at this picture.

Why do you think people send messages in bottles?

Because they can float on the water?

Because pirates who got nostalgic, liked drinking rum and they had a lot of bottles in hand?

Maybe these are the correct answers.

Or maybe, just maybe, for a long time people have been aware of the fact that glass bottles don't decompose. Yes,it is true. According to some sources, although glass is a material that is 100% recyclable and can be recycled endlessly without any loss in purity or quality, once thrown somewhere, it never disappear, it doesn't disintegrate.

When I created my Topic Lesson 1: Environment, I came across some facts about how long it takes to different items to decompose.

I would like to share some of these fats with you and I hope they will give you more information about environment, that you could use during your IELTS exam. I also hope that they will help you to rethink how much eco-friendly you are and how much you are willing to change some of your habits, if you ever are. I am not saying you have to, it's your choice.

Sad, isn't it?

Good news is that in fact people's behaviour on how to protecting our planet has improved a great deal in the recent years.

It all started in the 1970s in the USA with the now famous 3Rs. You can read more about the history of the famous slogan here.

With the time people's concern about our planet has grown stronger and many families, schools, businesses and organization have incorporated these principles in their private or professional lives until, for many of us, this has become a lifestyle. People also started adding more Rs to the original 3Rs and nowadays the slogan has grown to approximately 10Rs. In the next poster you can see my top favourite 7Rs.

Do you think the increasing number of Rs is showing a positive development of our eco-behaviour or it is just a pose?

Are you interested in reading something more about what the meaning of these verbs is?

Do you want to have a nice chat with your kids, friends and colleagues about how to protect the environment?

Would you like to try implementing some of these principles just for one week, maybe to taste the difference?

Don't wait until tomorrow. Start now. Start small. Small sometimes mean much more that nothing. The change will happen only with our collective efforts. Don't be indifferent. Don't be ignorant. This is your home. And the home of your children. Our home. And my home.

I have already started and I feel great.
